mesothelioma information

Being in contact with asbestos is the main cause of mesothelioma. There are no safe amounts of contamination. Any amount or level of contact with asbestos is bad. Asbestos fibers are very tiny and can be inhaled and stay in your lungs and body indefinetely and can spread through out your body causing mesothelioma as well as related diseases such as asbestos pleural disease and asbestosis. The sooner the diagnosis the better. Asbestos stays in your lungs and body. It can take 40 years to develop asbestos related cancer and mesothelioma. If you think you have had any exposure to asbestos in your life time, it is best to find out as soon as possible. Early diagnosis of mesothelioma may improve your chances, as some therapies have shown to be more beneficial if administered in early stages of development, such a cemotherapy. Asbestos particles may be swallowed or even inhaled thru dust from another persons clothes who was working with asbestos. Asbestos particles travel to the pleura (the membrane lining the lungs), to lymph nodes and other body organs.
Mesothelioma and Asbestos Exposure Among Workers
Workers who have been in construction or industrial jobs that may have been exposed to asbestos are at particularly high risk for developing mesothelioma. Any asbestos exposure of any amount increases a person’s chance of contracting mesothelioma. Family and friends that were in contact or around workers that were exposed to asbestos are also at risk due to possible contact with asbestos dust from the workers hair, skin, shoes, gloves, hats, lunchbox etc.
